The Government of Rwanda has recognized the link between decent, productive employment for young people and poverty reduction and has taken the initiative of providing opportunity of training unemployed young graduates who have dedicated themselves to complete their studies and lack opportunities to gain experience and often fail to find productive employment by joining the National Internship Program and get professional experience. This program will assist in not only to point young jobseekers in a right direction but also help them to develop self awareness, goals, realism confidence required in both getting job and succeeding in it.
The Internship Program is in line with one of the identified development Pillars of the Country’s Vision 2020 as it is a real strategy of Human Resource Development.
This program could contribute significantly to improve their employability whilst also helping address the human resource constraints which some institutions may be facing.
A Youth Internship Program in Public and Private Institutions of Rwanda would ease the transition between school and the workforce. The internship experience, developed skills and increased confidence will facilitate young graduating students in finding decent and productive work in their chosen field.
PROGRAMME OBJECTIVE
Capacity reinforcement – theory to practice; learn through performance; strengthen competences;
Develop communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
Build expertise - learn more about the subject matter studied and develop an expertise at a different level than in a classroom;
Create a positive work ethic amongst youth - effective work competencies and employability skills for work force development; and
Help gain valuable experience increasing marketability after graduation while support department/units working for vulnerable groups.
PROGRAM METHODOLOGY
The internship placement will last from six months in a hosting Institution.
The participants will attend an introduction through training workshop before the commencement of their internship. .
Each Institution will design a supervisor to coordinate and monitor the interns’ work
MIFOTRA will match appropriate interns with the criteria submitted by each Institution.
Upon completion of the internship, interns will receive a certificate.

MINISTRIES AND PUBLIC OR PRIVATE AGENCIES RESPONSIBILITIES
Each Ministry will provide a working area including a desk, chair, and a computer with Internet access where possible.
Each Institution will provide a supervisor for the intern. A supervisor may supervise more than one intern but not more than three.
Completing and signing a letter of recommendation for each hosted intern upon the completion of the internship placement.
