The private sector has been called upon to fight unemployment in the country through sustainable job creation.
The call was made by Ngoboka Francois, Manager of National Employment Program in the Minister for Labor and Public Service, in the interview with Clouds TV journalist yesterday.
Ngoboka said sustainable job creation will help curb the unemployment rate in the country that currently stands at 2% according to EICV4.
NEP Manager went on by saying that overall employment in Rwanda remains high at 85% of the working age population. The growth in employment has kept pace with the working age population. The current employment to population ratio increased by 4% between EICV3 and EICV4 though unepmloyment rate still high in graduates where 13% are unemployed the reason why the Government has initiated NEP to create off-farm jobs.
National Employment Program (NEP) will help create sufficient jobs for youths across the country.
NEP is a five-year program that aims at creating new jobs and enhancing the productivity of existing jobs through skilling and promotion of entrepreneurship.
The Second Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS2) targets to create at least 200,000 off-farm jobs annually.
Ngoboka said that the Government cannot stand alone in creating those off-farm jobs, but the private sector institutions can facilitate in creating those jobs.
