Preparations of African Public Service Day 2017 in high gear

From 21st to 23rd June, 2017 Rwanda will host African Public Service Day at Kigali Convention Centre.

Africa Public Service Day is an important strategic event on the African Union calendar. It originated from the decision of the 1st Conference of African Ministers for Civil/Public Service (CAMPS) in their meeting held at Tangiers, Morocco in 2002 .

It is celebrated on 23rd June of every year at national level by AU Member States to mark and appreciate the work being done by the Civil/Public Service and recognize their positive contribution in the socio-economic development. In addition, it is also celebrated every two years at a continental level and is hosted by one of AU member countries.

At the continental level, the Sixth celebration of the African Public Service Day is scheduled to be held in Kigali, from 21st-23rd June 2017 under the theme: “Entrenching a citizen-centred service delivery culture: Partnering with the youth for Africa’s transformation”. This Event was previously celebrated in Namibia (2007); in Tanzania (2009 & 2011); in Ghana (2013) and in Brazzaville; Republic of Congo (2015).

The celebrations will be marked by be two major events running concurrently namely the symposium and exhibition.

The event will also be marked by awarding the best Innovation exhibitors in Citizen-Centred Service Delivery, Youth Empowerment and ICT, Accountability and Transparency. The exercise of selecting best exhibitors will be led by a team of adjudicators based on set criteria. The team of adjudicators will be made up of representatives from five regions of Africa: Eastern, Western, Central, Northern and Southern Africa and representatives from the host country.
