Labour day 2025: Government, Private, academia and development partners reflected on Job Creation as a shared priority

1 May 2025 marked International Labour Day with a high-level event at Serena Hotel in Kigali, where the Ministry of Public Service and Labour and partners officially launched Employment Month and unveiled the National Employment and Skills Strategy (NESS). This special month will run until June, 2025, aims to promote job creation, enhance collaboration between sectors, and strengthen Rwanda’s commitment to decent work for all.

Presiding over the event, Minister Amb. Christine NKULIKIYINKA, emphasized that Labour Day is not only a celebration of workers’ contributions, but also a moment to reflect on Rwanda’s employment priorities.

“This month reminds us that job creation is our shared responsibility,” Minister NKULIKIYINKA said. “We are especially calling on the private sector to take an active role in expanding employment opportunities.”

The event brought together representatives from government agencies, private companies, civil society, and international partners, all unified by a shared vision of creating a stronger, more inclusive labour market. Discussions focused on policy support, entrepreneurship, workforce development, and building sustainable partnerships to boost employment.

Throughout the month, activities such as job fairs, skills development workshops, employer engagement sessions, and public awareness campaigns will be held across the country. These efforts aim to connect job seekers with opportunities and inspire organizations to contribute meaningfully to Rwanda’s employment agenda.
